Spring is finally here. But it’s not like the weather knows the difference. We have been searching the web for the newest trends and this year the movement is extravagance and bright colors. Anything from earrings that are big enough to be seen across a room, to bracelets that cover half of your arm. We know the statements are hard for some of us to imitate, so we have compiled the jewelry we want to share with you to the styles and colors of these spring 2015 trends, rather than the size. The thing about fashion, though is that practicality is hardly a question. Who cares about that? But we need it, whether we know it or not. The pictures you see are just a few of the spring 2015 functional, and trending pieces from our shop that have gotten a boost with this new season.
The spring trends this year can be a perfect way to perk up your outfit. Its cute, functional, and bold all at the same time. It’s easy to create the style you want, with a little bit of planning and the correct pieces to go along with it. And the thing about fashion, is you can pair them in different ways. As we all know, our wallets do not have an endless supply, so why not mix the old with the new this year? Happy Trending.

The two birthstones associated with December are Tanzanite and Turquoise.
Discovered in the late 1960s in Tanzania, and found exclusively in this tiny area of the world, tanzanite exhibits a rich violet-blue color for which the gemstone is treasured; often it is heat-treated to achieve this color. Colors range from blue to purple, and tanzanites that are medium dark in tone, vivid in saturation, and slightly violet blue command premium prices. As tanzanite can be less expensive than sapphire, it often was purchased as an alternative. However, it has increased in popularity and now is valued more for its own beauty and brilliance than as a sapphire substitute.
The name turquoise, from the French expression Pierre tourques or Turkish stone, originated in the thirteenth century and describes one of the oldest known gemstones. Turquoise varies in color from greenish blue, through robin’s egg-blue, to sky blue shades and its transparency ranges from translucent to opaque. Turquoise is plentiful and is available in a wide range of sizes. It is most often used for beads, cabochons, carvings, and inlays. Although its popularity fluctuates in fashion, it is a perennial favorite in the American Southwest.

It’s the month of pumpkins, apples and multiple stones to use for this month full of treats, leaves and autumn changes.
Which brings us to this months birthstone – Opals, Rubellites and Tourmalines!
Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone and the gemstone comes in a wide variety of colors.

Rubellite is a particularly beautiful gemstone from the colorful family of the tourmalines. Its color shines in the most beautiful nuances from red to shocking pink.
Opal is a hydrated formless appearance of silica. Because of its amorphous character, it is classed as a mineraloid, unlike the other crystalline forms of silica, which are classed as minerals. It is deposited at a relatively low temperature and may occur in the fissures of almost any kind of rock, being most commonly found with limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl, and basalt.
The internal structure of precious opal makes it diffract light; depending on the conditions in which it formed, it can take on many colors. Precious opal ranges from clear through white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, rose, pink, slate, olive, brown, and black. Of these hues, the reds against black are the most rare, whereas white and greens are the most common. It varies in optical density from opaque to semitransparent.
At Avianti, we only use the highest quality of Tourmalines and Opals. The variations in the colors and cuts are endless. However, instead of showing everything, here are a few of Avianti’s custom, hand-made items.
Tourmaline occurs in every color of the rainbow and also in combinations of two or three colors.
Tourmaline was highly desired by royalty in the Far East. The last Empress of China, Empress Dowager Tzu His was in love with pink tourmaline. Tourmaline became valued in Europe when the Dutch began to import it from Sri Lanka in the early 1700s.
Opals are also the Wedding anniversary gemstone and are given as gifts for the 14th and 18th year of marriage.
The color of opals is mainly determined and caused by the gem’s selective absorption of certain wavelengths of light called the body color.

July’s special stone is the Ruby. It is a lovely, red-pink colored precious stone.
A ruby is a pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum. Its name comes from ruber, Latin for red. Other varieties of gem-quality corundum are called sapphires.
The ruby is considered one of the four precious stones, next to the sapphire, the emerald and the diamond.
Prices of rubies are primarily determined by color. The brightest and most valuable “red” called blood-red, is a superior over other rubies of similar quality. After color follows clarity: similar to diamonds, a clear stone will command a premium, but a ruby without any needle-like rutile inclusions may indicate that the stone has been treated. Cut and carat (weight) are also an important factor in determining the price.
Here are some of our custom designed items with rubies.
Ruby is the traditional birthstone for July and why don’t you let Avianti Jewelry custom design you a piece of art for your special month. We can also design you a mothers ring with all your children’s birthstones. At Avianti, the sky is your limit.

Rubelite is the name of the pink to red colored hues of tourmaline. Tourmalines are semi-precious stones that come in a variety of colors.
There are red and pink tourmalines in many subtle differences, which include a soft pink, a fine bright pink, an deep violet and a bold ruby-red. However, only a few of these are deserving to call themselves ‘rubelites’. The name comes from the Latin ‘rubellus’, which means reddish. Rubelites are not just red or bright pink tourmalines. There is an important principle for this beautiful gemstone, and that is the way its color behaves in daylight and artificial light. Many gemstones change their color depending on the light source. A true rubelite does not. It shines just as intensely in artificial light as it does in daylight. The color of most other pink or red tourmalines, by contrast, displays a more or less clearly visible tinge of brown in artificial light.
This stunning, up and coming stone has caught Avianti’s eye and we have begun to add this into our fine jewelry collection.
This is one of our Rubelite in Rose Gold Engagement Ring that you can find on Etsy.
Another design is the Rubelite in another Rose Gold setting with Diamonds, again, found here on Etsy.
We personally think that the Rose Gold really brings out the color of the Rubelite and the accent diamonds always add an extra shine.
But we love to help our client’s dreams come true so we even created a couple Rubelites in a White Gold setting.
One of them is a Rubelite Ring with a Twisted Split Shank.
Another lovely Rubelite Ring has a Diamond Twisted Split Shank cast in White Gold.

“Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
Music has always been one of the most influential tools since the beginning. Some music can make you want to dream, some bring out your inner artist, dancer or even your inner rebel. It is one of the most beautiful forms of art. At Avianti Jewelry, we love music. We listen for its inspiration it all day long – while we create custom jewelry, work with clients, or our blog. We have created a couple items that show our love for music.
This is our Emerald and Diamond Viola cast in Yellow Gold pendant. With the Emeralds on the neck and Diamonds all around with a plain Yellow Gold bow:
Next is our Onyx and Diamond Saxophone brooch with music notes and White Gold and Diamond keys:

The June Birthstones are Alexandrite and Pearls. Both of these items are very beautiful and vary in color.
Pearls come in a variety. There are Fresh Water Pearls, Tahitian Pearls, Black Pearls and Mabe Pearls. Avianti Jewelry has many beautiful items with Pearls.
This is Avianti’s Vintage Pearl and Diamond Ring on Etsy.
This is our Tahitian Pearl Pendant on our website here.
This is our Black Pearl and Diamond Earrings on our main site.
Alexandrites are a very rare making hard to come by, an expensive stone and most are synthetic. The reason Avianti do not use Alexandrires, is due to those reasons and we do not want to sell cheap and fake stones.
There is one question many people ask: “Why do Alexandrites appear to hange color in the sunlight vs the artificial light?”
Here are the 3 main lights with the effects on the gems.
The radiant lighting contains a higher balance of red light and the Alexandrite appears red to a person’s eye.
Alexandrite effects the aspect of an observed color change from a greenish hue to a reddish with a change in source illumination.
Daylight contains high proportions of blue and green light and the stone appears green to the human eye.
